SITAPUR, India – A 16-year-old boy was killed Tuesday morning after being struck by a school bus in Machhrehta, Sitapur district. The incident, which occurred around 8:00 a.m. IST, led to the driver abandoning the bus and fleeing the scene after students onboard raised an alarm.
The victim, identified as Saroj Kumar, 16, son of Manoj Kumar, a resident of Bahadurpur village, was reportedly out for his morning routine when he was hit by a school bus belonging to Sw. Yashoda Kanya PG College. The collision took place near Kashipur turn, close to Dhanadhari forest, on the Machhrehta-Misrikh road within the Machhrehta police station area.
Police arrived at the scene and initiated an investigation. Authorities have sent the body for post-mortem examination. Family members of the deceased were reportedly distraught upon hearing the news.
Initial reports indicate that after the collision, the bus driver attempted to flee towards Misrikh. However, shouts from the students inside the bus prompted the driver to stop the vehicle and escape on foot.
Local residents and family members expressed anger following the incident. Inspector Pradeep Singh of Misrikh was reported to have addressed the agitated crowd.
